Please avoid this school (Virginia College)

I graduated from this hellhole of a school with an Associates but could not attend my graduation because of the incompetence of the financial aid department. The staff are bums and *** from the Dean on down and then they have the audacity to catch attitudes because you call asking about YOUR refund check that YOU are going to have to pay back. We, the students have to suffer because they switched over to a new system of dealing with your disbursements and refunds, BLAH, BLAH BLAH. All of these excuses are just a smokescreen to keep your money. They act as if they are doing you a favor by giving you YOUR money. When I called in to the financial aid office I always got a *sigh* and an attitude because these functioning retards do not want to do their job. The financial aid coordinator that I was assigned to never had any information about my loans. She just told me some *** to get me off the phone. Why was she even there? There was never an exact breakdown of what I was paying for. If you go on the student portal, which btw is a joke of a website that looks like it had been created by a intoxicated toddler, they only show your loan disbursements and your balance so that is not a true breakdown either. These people are shysters to the core. Let us not even get on the illiterates that they have for professors/instructors. They have the audacity to *** points if you make one typo but they can jack up a whole paragraph and think someone is supposed to take them seriously. One of these so-called "instructors" told me that I was SOL since my computer crashed and did not even try to help me with the situation. This was not the case for all of the instructors but the great majority seemed like they could have phoned in their so-called "instruction." In addition, the process of securing an externship was a total fiasco. I was told at the very last minute that I could not use certain sites for an externship. The first externship coordinator that I had did next to nothing to help me. However, the second coordinator worked her butt off to help me secure a site. She actually gave a ***. However, when I did secure a site it was in the third week of the *** course teamed with the fact that the *** externship was 30 miles away round trip. Therefore, I am spending 80-100 bucks a week in gas and putting wear and tear on my car trying to get my externship hours. Again, I am coming out of money and no one is going to reimburse me for my gas but they have the gall and nerve to hold my refund check hostage and tell me that I am the bad person for inquiring about MY OWN money. Are you serious?? Oh and finally yet, importantly, they switched the graduation date of the ceremony by a week and did not have the decency or the tact to apologize or give an explanation as to why this was done. The e-mail, in a nutshell, went like this "we switched the date of your graduation ceremony can you still attend?" They did not give a thought that some students might be from out of town and have made plans and reservations to attend on the initial date. That *** was so unprofessional and inconsiderate. I have totally had it with this bootleg establishment posing as a college. I was enrolled in the bachelors program but after this last debacle with my refund check, I have since ditched this school for a more reputable one. Messing with MY money and making me miss an opportunity to walk across the stage was the last straw for me. Anyone considering this school, either online or otherwise, should avoid it as if it was an STD!!

Virgina College Of Greenville

Virginia College Of Greenville is the most ghetto college I've ever seen. I attend this school and got dropped. But besides the point I said if I ever finish or stop going for whatever reason I would bash them. The college is just ghetto. The clinical teachers are ghetto and have no class to be in such a profession. They worry about being professional and bomb rush everybody that isn't in dress code but they don't practice what they preach. They have a bad state of mind about teaching and really not sucessful with that. I think the board should go there and see how they are in class. The board should go undercover because the mouse will not come out in play if the cat is near. Such ghetto and a big disappointment.

I have also attended there. All true.

What they preach is most definitely not what they themselves practice.

Alot of favoritism and instructors acting like children. Not professional at all.

Virginia college baton rouge campus

Hello.. I enrolled at va college baton rouge campus in 6/2011. Out of 3 instructors, one was in my opinion not good at relaying the information to the students. He was too busy laughing and trying to be friends and telling stories of his days in the field. Many of his jokes in my opinion were very rude and un called for. One in particular of many was him telling the class to break and told us when to be back, I simply looked back at the clock to make sure I would be back in time, his reply to me "what is that ok with you, cuz you looking like I cant tell time" I ignored his comment, another was a student answered a question, I looked at her book and asked her what page he went on to tell the student that I was asking what page "oh she rolled her eyes at you" now he dosent know if the other student would have took that wrong or what. This school has had several physical fights amongst students, the authorities have been called on several occassions. The instructors bad mouth one another, saying some of the instructors can't teach. Well I spoke with the dean to withdraw, she went on to tell me she is disappointed in me, I am a dissapointement to the school and I didnt give them a chance. In my opinion that was very unprofessional of her to say, she has no clue what other issues I could have been dealing with. I had been attending since 6/2011 and withdrew 7/27/2011 I feel that is ample enough time for a school to show what they are really made of, and this school did not, now to mention none of your credits will transfer, regardless of what they tell you...

Virginia College bait and lure

No, the media is not picking on for-profits for a reason, everything negative that has been written about them is true. Being a former employee, I saw students tricked into enrolling into degree programs that couldn't even read or write. Many employees were threatened, harassed, and bullied by campus and corporate administrators for not making their quotas or retaining students. Those who stay in this type of environment and prey on these students are only motivated by GREED! These top level executives and campus presidents are getting rich with Title IV funds (U.S. gov't financial aid). When employers see that a student graduates from this college, their resumes go in the "*** no" pile. Students be aware!

This is so true. I kind of felt like it was a scam when i talked to the Admissions person named Darrell Washington.

He tried to play on my emotions and when i told him my babysitter fell through so i was going to pu things on hold. He told me basically to just leave my child with family even when they told me they could only babysit certain day. He said i should push the evelope with them to go to school. I told him he sounded like a fool.

Im not gone abuse the help my family can give. I have to make my schedule around when they could babysit. He then tried to attack my character by saying maybe im not wanting better for my child. School at this point is a choice but my kids safety is first.

He was out of his place. I was also inquireing about the accredidation and they danced. around the truth and then lied by saying they are accredited which is ***.Also how about their one of the program director that is over their medical assistant program was found out to be a fraud. She didnt have a nursing degree or anything but teaching classes on how to draw blood and things.

She was found to be a fraud and when she lied about all these degrees she had a fellow employee check into it and found out it wasnt so. When they confronted her she got into a physical altercation with employees and the cops were called. If she does have liscense how did the school not know this. She wasn't qualified to teach anything.

My thing is they are ovrpriced not accredited and evidentally dont do backgound checks on their employees. This director was a thug.

How can the student learn properly when the teacher is a fraud. They need to refund peoples money and be shut down.

I went into a quick mart store the other day, the clerk was on the phone with someone, she told them that "she had no gotten her refund check from school yet". I ask her, are you going to school with the expectation that you are getting refunds that just come out of thin air.

Do you not know that you are running up loans that will ruin your future.

She said that not what school told her.

You can now see on VC website and other schools too, what they are charging for a 2 year associate degree that is not worth the paper it is written on at a cost that is higher than most legitimate colleges.

Guest

You are right, eveything written is correct, students *** enough to be LURED dont need college. They need to just sign on with a contruction company to dig holes, they will make more money, not be $30000 in debit and will have something to show for it.

Guest

Thank you for being so honest! I knew about Virginia College, yet I somehow got lured in by all the sweet employees.

I attended the 6 week Fall Mini-Term and withdrew immediately after. I now have to pay nearly $2000 for this out of pocket. I asked if they could provide a detailed summary ledger of the amount owed, they said that it does not list it because everything is included. What exactly is "everything" because I never received my scrubs.

Also, Learning Framework is super dumb! I am a working adult in a Corporate environment.

I think that I understand how to be a professional. I cannot believe that this class was required!

Virginia College - Smooth Sales tactics

I admit, I was lured by the sales rep in the admissions department. They said the classes would be easy and could I make my schedule any time of the week. That was not true. Only the academic advisors/directors could make the students schedules. When I tried to drop out a term for medical reasons, I had about 7 different dept. reps try to talk me out of withdrawing and wondered if I could postpone my surgery that came up unexpected. The nerve. My advice, go to a public two-year college first, plus the credits transfer and they aren't hardcore sales people.

I am a former employee of Virginia College in Savannah, GA. The school is a joke.

The school has had 2 presidents and 3 deans since the school opened in June 2011. The administrative staff do not know how to talk to their employees, they bully the students regarding their attendance, and treat the students like little children. Students are rewarded with "rubber ducks" and "gold stars" if they have weekly perfect attendance.

This is ***. Students are adults and deserved to be treated as such--they need real rewards for accomplishing great attendance and getting excellent grades--perhaps a gas card or gift card to their local Kroger or WalMart.

If you worked there and were trained right then you would know that its illegal to reward "gifts" to students gor attending school.

education corporation of america owns virginia college and NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE OF BUSINESS (NECB)

ECA president threatened senator tom harken

ECA has had lawsuits out the butt

ECA is owned by a hedge fund out of chicago

how much is a bachelors or masters degree worth when it comes from a diploma mill that also trains cosmotologists, cooks and nurses aids?

why doesn't the government ban all for profit colleges

all colleges should be either public or private non profits

how can we compete with the rest of the world is we have for profits like ECA handing out worthless degrees

If you can't find the people that work at VC, just check the closest bar!

Guest

Ok, so yes, perhaps VC has helped you get an education and a better career, but no more than you could have done for yourself if you had enrolled at a local CC - heck I now work for a private college and even our tuition is lower than that of VC. Also, the CREDITS WILL NEVER EVER TRANSFER - I know this for a fact - and I am NOT vindictive.

Leaving VC was the best decision I ever ever made! the Supervisors treat you like the dirt on your shoes no matter how well you do there or how many students you can get to enroll. I was NEVER able to take any time off for family events even when I had plenty of vacation time - I promise you on my life that all that most staff at VC care about is money and keeping their own jobs. You will graduate with nearly 30K in debt for a degree that will get you a job only making $10 or so max!!!

Please as I tell all students, DO YOUR HOMEWORK ON THE COLLEGE PRIOR TO ENROLLING AND SIGNING YOUR LIFE AND MONEY AWAY!!!!!!

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!! Oh and I worked at 3 different campuses and they are ALL the same honey!

I am also a former recruiter, and I fully support the above statement. They treat their employees like *** and their students even worse.

" Students First"? NOT so much...

Guest

I am a VC nursing student. Here is my take on things...

The program is new and somewhat disorganized however the school works very closely with the Alabama Board of Nursing and is compliant on all policies and follows protocol to the letter. They are accredited, however they are accredited as a private school not public. So, yes, you will likely have difficulty transferring credits from one institution to another if the latter is not also accredited through the same agency. In the nursing program you WILL be able to take NCLEX but at the present time you would only be licensed to practice in Alabama.

Once they have a graduating class, and they have all taken boards then the school will qualify to get national accreditation for their nursing program. You have theory, lab and clinicals that help prepare you for nclex. It is a new program so there is room for improvement. They monitor the students and progress of the program regularly to ensure that each student is given the tools they need to succeed.

As with any school you will have instructors that you don't mesh well with and you will likely have courses that you hate. The tuition is way too much, but for a working or single parent this school is a good option for nursing. They offer nursing classes at night and generally they try to arrange clinical hours for weekends to accomodate the adult student. Many other schools require you to get the LPN and be working as a LPN while going to school.

VC doesn't do that, they allow you to go straight for the RN, so all you have to focus on is making the grades and learning.

(some would argue being an LPN is better) It really depends on your individual situation. So, don't hate on VC completely, for some, this is the better option.

Guest

Hey Liar, if VC save your life, I can only imagine what you learned there to have a great Career.... It cannot be that great.

What we do here when a VC grad shows up with that worthless piece of paper, we laugh and tell them to take a hike.... back over to VC to ask them why they paid $30K+ for a kindergarden education.

Guest

I am also a former employee of Virginia College and would like to tell any one who wishes to attend there to please heed the warning about going. I am not vindictive because I now have a better job and more peace of mind after leaving the Devil's workshop.

I no longer feel the pressure of Virginia College supervisors standing over us like Hebrew slaves just waiting for us to mess up so they can write us up when they don't even know how to do our jobs and sure can't do their's. They are more full of *** than a Christmas goose and will not help you or do you any favors. I have heard them call the students "cash cows", because that's how they look at you. The only one's they get treated worse than the students are the employees.

Run away from Virginia College.

You will have better luck going to a community college. The education will be better, you will be treated better and you will get your check.

Guest

Who ever wrote this stuff, you need a life, if VC don't work for you then go somewhere else, as far as the VC Staff member that is no longer working there, it is a reason and maybe it's because you stuck!!!!!! Get a life, VC saved MINE!!!!

And I have a great Career!!!! :)

I don't know who the dummy who had something negative to say about the author receiveing a loan that is accruing interest and will have to pay it back. It must be a Virginia College dummy.

This is not pell grant, it is a loan and you are due your money. They did the same thing to my loans and I was a straight "A" student. To the anonymous *** talking *** at the bottom of these post, you and your lazy wife should have taken up a full time job like my husband and I, and an aprenticeship. You're no better thanm the author thinking you can half work just because you have homework to do.

Kill yourself. To the author, do what you must to get out while you can and at least consider your local community college.

Guest

I don't understand why most comments are so mean, give the people who are complaining a break

Guest

Since you attend college "full-time" -- 3 classes, 2 - 4 hours each day -- that means you can't work a part time job that would more than make up for the 6 - 800 dollars per semester you would receive in a LOAN ADVANCE check, right?

Newsflash *** -- I attended a private college for four years where the tuition was higher than Virginia Colleges, graduated with a 3.4GPA and worked 30 hrs/wk.

Between my wife who went to the same school and myself we have a COMBINED 25k in loans. Get over yourself and stop thinking everyone owes you something and you can live off of handouts.

Guest

Student loans are for your tuition. If you depend on them to eat than you deserve to starve.

Guest

just wondering, what does eating and going to school have to do with each other. i hope you are not saying that you were planning on eating on borrowed money while getting a worthless degree, that would be a mistake.

Guest

i went to virgina the full two years and i now have 25,000 worth of student loans and nothing to show for it no one in my class was able to get a job in my degree and you can not transfer credit to be on the look out

Virginia College at Birmingham rip off technical school

Virginia College promises a great education, but they are a complete rip off. I was on financial aid but still managed to have to pay 7,000 out of pocket. When I tried to attend another college they tried to say i still owed them 1,500 more dollars. I paid The Department of Education all this money plus all this interest. When I went to the school to get my transcript they told me about oweing all this extra money!!!! Who do I call? If you have had the same problem please let me know what number I can report them too.

dont worry about whether you got your degree, your transcripts or anything else from this place. Your resume is going in the garbage can with this school mentioned as where you got your "education". This place is not taken seriously in the real world.

Braven Aux

I too have been screwed over by these idiots. I was told when I was only 2 quarters away from getting my BA that I ran out of student loans and could no longer attend unless I paid out of pocket.

I had to quit school. I recently found out from the loan company that I was lied to because I still had money available to me. It has been over a year now so the loan company wants heir money back :/ I still have no job!!!! I have applied for several federal jobs but they require transcripts and the idiots at VCO are holding my transcripts hostage, saying I owe them money and until I pay them off they will not release my transcripts!!!

WTH??? :(

Guest

virginia is a suck *** college. I went in for a tour once and the admissions officer did not even speak proper english.

she told me I'd get lots of "hands on train". I think she meant "hands on training". they have to meet certain admissions quotas or they get booted. please do not go here.

please please please. go to community college instead.

Guest

If we all came together and filed a class action suit, maybe we could stop them from ripping people off.

Guest

This school is a waste of time!!!!!!!!!! Please not sign up for this ***.

Refunds checks will never get to you. The finanical planners are big liars. You get a différent story everytime each time you call to the school.

An investigation is long over due. To top it off your degree is nothing when you graduate.

Guest

I have been trying to deal with Dean Brown who is verbally abusive. I had a problem with a teacher, who does not teach, he investigated, and I knew he would back the teacher, I was not wrong.

She accussed me of being dishonest, not turning things in on time. I usually turn things in 3-4 days early.

To say the least she failed me, instead of teaching she is buttering someone up. I am going to contact the President of the College, then Dept of Education.

Guest

You get what you get ripped off for....

Employers dont interview for profit college "graduates", using that term loosely here, one reason is that if they are *** enough to pay $30000 for a useless degree, then why do you want someone that *** working for you....

Hopefully, the government will clamp down again in a few years on these cheats...

Guest

Amy, maybe it's because you can't speak or use correct punctuation. I wouldn't hire you, either.

Guest

I'm currently in process oof trying to get off these roster due to the fact that they keep re-enrolling me WITHOUT my consent. They ship books wthout even callng first!!

I'm a busy adult and haven't had much time to sit and deal with the schedule the want me to adhere to. The student advisors are a joke! I tried to withdraw due to the fact I lost my job and was at the end of my lease, they threatened me with possibly being charged for the full term and having to pay them out of pocket. Then once my pell grant came in, they recalculated my budget so much until I wasn't even eligible to get the difference from my pell as a refund.

They do everything utterly possble to keep students from receiving a refund. The rep Matt told me the do the budget with "the student in mind," which is total bullissh, because I needed a new computer to continue my classes and the only thing he suggested was the Advance Loan for, another pointless piece of paper which makes you have beg for money YOU have received from your loan company or pell grant. This form allows you to write exactly why you need money, an exact dollar amount of what the needed item costs and where you'll be purchasng the item from. Then you still have to wait for an approval and IF you're approved (mind you this money is whatever you have left over from loans/grants), you'll be issued the money in increments that could spread over the next year.

Wdf good does that do me if I need money for a computer to go to class NOW? Virginia college does everything in their power to aviod giving you money that uncle sam has issued to you. Don't waste your money here. 14k for 6 months of school?

What a way to be robbed. If you want to get a refund check, better not enroll here, plain and simple.

Guest

Because the college is not Regionally accredited, those credits are not transferable to other Regionally schools. You might find other regionally school to take them but state schools will not.

I also went there and owned money to them and could never get an answer to where this extra money came from. I got out after 4 classes and transfered to Ashford University.

Much better school. Good Luck!!!

I was taken by va online college of my money

I was enrolled with, VA college online in Birmingham Alabama. I was to get 423.00 in pellgrant, 3,23.00 in student loans and 1000.00 in a scholarship. My computer broke and I had to drive 10 miles to a library to use their's. I kept calling the school to ask them when I would get my money so I could get me a computer. I was told four different dates, I quit going to that school and they have spent all my money and I also found out my books were old books and no good.
